National Rum Day

Rum, how can you not love a spirit which is made from sugar cane and is the key ingredient to so many beloved cocktails such as: Daiquiri, Mojito, Pina Colada, Dark ’N’ Stormy, Cuba Libré or simply throw in some Coca Cola and you are set. If rum by itself wasn’t enough, you can choose from: white rum, dark rum and spiced rum and you now have an entire day to celebrate this wonderful spirit.

Spiced Ginger Mojito Recipe from Cleo at their Third Street Locaction, this is a “Bespoke Cocktail” – Ingredients: Bacardi Rum, mint, spicy ginger syrup with powdered sugar garnish.

 

 

Don Papa Rum is a premium aged rum from the Philippines known for its rich, sweet style and fruity notes. Below are a few signature cocktails that are easy to make and perfect to celebrate National Rum Day.

Filipiña Colada:

15 mL ginger syrup

30 mL pineapple juice

45 mL Don Papa 7

60 mL coconut water

Method: Combine in a shaker, pour over ice and garnish with a long pineapple leaf (and/or a ginger spear) along with chocolate bitters.

Filipiña Colada:

Here Comes the Sun: 

30 mL Don Papa

15 mL Scotch whisky

22 ½ mL lemon juice

22 ½ mL passion fruit syrup

22 ½ mL egg whites

2 dashes peach bitters

Method: Shake all ingredients together in a shaker then remove ice, then dry shake. Use strainer then put in coupe glass. Garnish with 1 basil leaf.

Mai Tai:

½ oz. Don Papa Rum

½ oz. fresh lime juice

½ oz. orgeat syrup

1 oz. mango nectar

Method: Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with 2 cups of crushed ice. Shake well. Pour everything (do not strain) into glass. Garnish with a lime shell sunk into the ice and a sprig of fresh mint.

CUATRO PRESIDENTE

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 parts BACARDÍ Cuatro
  • 0.75 parts Martini & Rossi Rosso Vermouth
  • 0.25 parts Dry Curacao
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Method: Stir all ingredients with plenty of rice until very cold, strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with orange peel.

OLD CUBAN

Ingredients:

  • 1½ parts BACARDÍ Reserva Ocho
  • 4 mint leaves
  • ⅔ part sugar syrup
  • ½ part lime juice
  • 2 dashes of bitters
  • 2 parts Prosecco

Method: Shake all ingredients (except sparkling). Double strain and top with Prosecco. Garnish with a mint leaf float.

HAVANA CLUB

The real HAVANA CLUB rum is also known for its deep-rooted history. It is a brand that represents the convergence of two Cuban families – the Bacardi family and Arechabala family – that came together to preserve the legacy of the original, authentic HAVANA CLUB recipe.

HAVANA CAFÉ

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts HAVANA CLUB Añejo Clásico Rum
  • 0.25 parts demerara sugar
  • 0.75 parts MARTINI & ROSSI Rosso Vermouth
  • 0.5 parts Cold Brew Coffee
  • Garnish with lemon twist
  • Single Ice Rock

Method: Stir all ingredients with plenty of ice until very cold. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice

cube.

HAVANA ESPECIAL

Ingredients:

  • 1 part HAVANA CLUB Añejo Blanco Rum
  • 2 parts pineapple juice
  • 1 barspoon Maraschino Liqueur

Method: Combine in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake, and strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice.

RUM OLD FASHIONED

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 parts Santa Teresa 1796
  • 0.25 parts Demerara Syrup
  • 4 dashes Angostura Bitters

Method: Build all ingredients in a mixing glass. Stir 30-40 seconds. Pour over ice in a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

Green Tea Punch

Ingredients:

  • 5 parts Brewed Sencha Tea
  • 4 parts Brewed Mint Tea
  • 4 parts Demerara Sugar
  • 4 parts Lime Juice
  • 9 parts Banks 5 Island Rum
  • Whole nutmeg for grating (optional)

Method: Combine both teas with the sugar and stir to dissolve. Add 1 cup of ice to bring the hot tea down to room temperature, then add the rum and lime juice. Fill a pitcher with ice. To serve, strain into punch cups. Garnish with grated nutmeg, if desired.

  • 1 part sweet vermouth

Method: Place ice in a cocktail shaker or stirring vessel. Add the rum, vermouth and bitters. Stir, then strain the drink into the glass. Garnish with orange peel.
